Keep the pressure on TDs

While the recent political response to our campaign to Defend the State Pension is very encouraging we are not taking anything for granted. It is clear from the statements of a number of Ministers that no decisions have been taken to protect the State Pension and it is still a distinct possibility that the Pension and the other income supports for older people may yet be cut. We’re determined to redouble our efforts; it will be important to keep lobbying your local TDs in the coming weeks.

This morning (Tuesday 9th November) Minister for Justice, Dermot Ahern, said "The decision to cut old age pensions in December’s budget is still open". This statement contrasts with recent statements from Minster Mary White and Mary O’Rourke TD in support of the State Pension. It is clear that we all need to maintain pressure on our local TDs.

We are asking our supporters to continue to lobby their local politicians until we get a clear commitment from the Government itself that the State Pension won’t be cut.

The deadline for return of our postal Defend the State Pension petitions is the 17th November and we encourage you to email our online video and petition to your friends who have yet to join the campaign.
