Make Positive Ageing Work: NPAS Campaign

In 2006 organisations working with older people came together under the name Older & Bolder to call for the development of a national strategy on ageing; it was clear that a planned approach to growing older in Ireland was needed. 

Consultations 

Between November 2008 and June 2009, Older & Bolder conducted eight consultation meetings with older people. The aims of these meetings were 

Older & Bolder with the support of older people around the country campaigned for six years for the publication of a National Positive Ageing Strategy.  This campaign was sustained through two Programmes for Government and over the tenure of three Ministers for Older People. This document charts the six years of action taken by older people with Older & Bolder.

Director of Older & Bolder, Patricia Conboy said, “Older & Bolder welcomes the holistic view of ageing that the strategy embraces, the recognition for the need for a whole-of-government response and specific health-related commitments that speak to our recent Make Home Work campaign”.

Older & Bolder has today 13th February met with Minister Kathleen Lynch who told us that the National Positive Ageing Strategy will be published in the coming weeks.

Older & Bolder Director, Patricia Conboy said, “Older & Bolder welcomes the imminent publication of the National Positive Ageing Strategy. Minister Kathleen Lynch informed us that the strategy has been signed off by the Cabinet Committee on Social Policy. It is now en route to Government and we anticipate that it will be published in the coming weeks”.

This document charts 6 years of action by Older & Bolder in calling for a National Positive Ageing Strategy. It calls for the delivery of a positive ageing strategy within 2012.
