As described in the overview page the MAKE HOME WORK campaign called for the retention of the supports and services that help us take an active role in managing our physical and mental health.

Supporters from around the country joined the campaign with gusto and when cuts to home help and home care packages were announced they focused their efforts on resisting those cuts through the MAKE HOME WORK campaign.

The MAKE HOME WORK campaign outlined how implementing policy and redirecting service provision and resources towards the achievable goal of ageing well at home:

  • Benefits whole communities, individuals, our future selves and under-resourced families.
  • Relieves pressure on our overstretched health system.
  • Is better value for the State given the high cost of the alternatives.

Below are some of the actions Older & Bolder supporters took as they took part in the Make Home Work campaign and resisted the cuts to Home Help and Home Care Packages.

Join the Older & Bolder campaign to make the right to age well at home a reality.

1. Send a personal message

Take action now by signing our petition to support the right to age well at home. Add a personal message to an Taoiseach identifying the supports that you value and want to see protected because they help you, or someone close to you, to age well at home

2. Take action as a group

Politicians really take notice when a Family Resource Centre, Bowling Club, Youth Club or Active Retirement group tells them community and home care services is an issue in their constituency and should be prioritised. Such action is especially powerful when local concern is connected to a nation-wide campaign. That is why we’re encouraging groups and organisations to adopt our Make Home Work Charter

3. Speak up

Write, call or email your TDs. Let them know your views on the right to age well at home and the supports needed to make this a real option. Contact details for TDs offices can be found at www.oireachtas.ie – or you can contact us here at Older & Bolder for a list of local representatives.

4. Stay informed

Throughout 2012 we’ll have plenty of opportunities to support the campaign. If you currently receive emails or letters from us we’ll keep you informed, if not contact us and we’ll add you to our mailing list.
