AGEING STRATEGY ON THE CUSP OF DELIVERY [13/02/13]

Older & Bolder has today 13th February met with Minister Kathleen Lynch who told us that the National Positive Ageing Strategy will be published in the coming weeks.

Older & Bolder Director, Patricia Conboy said, “Older & Bolder welcomes the imminent publication of the National Positive Ageing Strategy. Minister Kathleen Lynch informed us that the strategy has been signed off by the Cabinet Committee on Social Policy. It is now en route to Government and we anticipate that it will be published in the coming weeks”.

Patricia Conboy continued, “The imminent production of the strategy is good news. Older & Bolder with the support of older people around the country have campaigned for six long years for the publication of a National Positive Ageing Strategy.  This campaign has been sustained through two Programmes for Government and over the tenure of three Ministers for Older People. We commend Minister Lynch for bringing energy and impetus to the delivery of this long awaited strategy”.

Patricia Conboy concluded, “The publication of the National Positive Ageing Strategy will be very important. Older people have told us in repeated consultations that the right kind of planning, information and supports make the crucial difference between independence and dependence for older people. An effective National Positive Ageing Strategy has the potential to improve older people’s quality of life”.
