Government should focus on reforming tax reliefs rather than further cutting the State Pension

The Older & Bolder campaign today said that the reported proposal to cut the State Pension by 2.5% would be an assault on vulnerable older people and has urged the government to focus on reforming tax reliefs rather than further cutting the State Pension.
Older & Bolder’s Director, Patricia Conboy said that any cut to the State Pension will be stubbornly resisted and urged older people and their families to join the groups’ nationwide lobby of politicians.

The Older & Bolder campaign has today criticised calls from the Irish Times Economics Editor, Dan O’Brien for a cut in the old-age pension. According to the Older and Bolder campaign, what Mr O’Brien is actually calling for is a deepening of poverty levels amongst older people and the campaign also say that his arguments just don’t add up.
