Older & Bolder says major policy decisions could be made on the future of the State Pension and income supports based on questionable information.

An age-friendly society in which everyone can contribute and participate is a better society. When we actively promote the inclusion and engagement of older people in all aspects of civic, public and cultural life, everyone benefits.

The many voluntary organisations that are working across Ireland to promote involvement and highlight its importance need to be supported in their work.

Our new government must embrace participation and should also offer practical steps to take account of older people’s opinions on the issues, policies and services that affect all our lives...

The Older & Bolder campaign has today criticised calls from the Irish Times Economics Editor, Dan O’Brien for a cut in the old-age pension. According to the Older & Bolder campaign, what Mr O’Brien is actually calling for is a deepening of poverty levels amongst older people and the campaign also say that his arguments just don’t add up.

Mr O’Brien today argued that, “pension increases have been very large in recent years, rising considerably more rapidly than either total spending or the economy in general.”

However, Patricia Conboy, Older & Bolder’s...

The Older & Bolder campaign today said that Minister Ó Cuiv’s refusal to rule out an across-the-board reduction to the State pension and his argument that some pensioner’s income may be cut to protect an emerging group of poorer younger people is ‘using a sledgehammer to crack a nut’.  Older & Bolder is an alliance of eight of the country’s leading NGOs working with older people.

Patricia Conboy, Older & Bolder’s Director, said: “The Minister is using a sledgehammer to crack a nut.  His comments are an attempt to put two vulnerable groups in competition with...
